Amos 3:7 - "Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets."
Dear family and friends,
This week was super good! Deng came to church yesterday and it was awesome. I sat next to him and the Croese clan. He works with Dayana (Croese) Van Kalken and so that was cool to see them interact. It was funny during sacrament meeting because you could just see the questions formulating in his head. He even asked someone for a piece of paper and a pen to write down some questions he had (one of which was 'why are there so few men with beards???'). The members were super good at talking to him and saying hi and everything and he already has an in with all of the Croeses because he works with Dayana.
During Gospel Principles class Zuster Elfert talked about the Restoration. It was a great review for Deng and also for a couple other investigators who were present.
Priesthood was awesome. Broeder Charles Croese had the lesson and he talked about faith and halfway through the discussion Deng asked a question that sparked a whole line of conversation that and answers from members and more questions from Deng and then personal experiences were shared and testimonies born and it was great. The members seemed to really enjoy it and Deng seemed to really benefit from it. I felt the Spirit so strongly and felt very happy with how well Deng's first church experience was going.
It ended on a good note as well with a 'linger longer' after church was over. Deng chatted with a bunch of members and also got some more of his questions answered. He left after we had set up another appointment for this week and he said that he would like to come to General Conference next week in Rotterdam North. Deeeeeng!!! He's great.
Deng coming to church was one of the coolest miracles of the week, but definitely not the only one. We also found some new people, Cristian being one of them. Cristian was actually found a couple of weeks ago but we had our first appointment on Thursday. We went with four missionaries to the lesson because we weren't able to get a joint teach but it went really well. She is from St. Martin and speaks English. She's been here for a while to study and will probably go back in a year or so. She is so open though and was very willing to hear the Restoration and read in the Book of Mormon and pray about it this week. She also said a very nice prayer at the end. I'm excited to keep working with her.
We had a lesson with John Ardin on Tuesday and Broeder Silberie came as with us. They were able to bond because they both have experienced work-related injuries and they talked about that for a while. It was kind of funny because John was painting his stairs and so we couldn't really go up and ended up just sitting outside on some random chairs to have the lesson. It was good. We asked John what three things he wants to do to come closer to Christ. He said, "Develop more faith in Jesus Christ, get baptized, and help others learn about Jesus." Haha that was good to hear! He is finishing up his house over the next couple of weeks and so he doesn't have a ton of time, but he said that after he is finished he will start dedicating more time to the Book of Mormon and preparing for baptism.
One of the best parts of the week was going on exchanges in Leiden on Wednesday with the Assistants, Elder Wilson and Elder Crowder! It was kind of weird because I was surrounded by almost half of my current and former companions. It was super fun though and I really enjoyed working with Elder Wilson for the day. Possibly one of the last times before he goes home in November! Crazy. We had a good day and got some good work done. We met with some cool people, including this guy named Amar and an inactive member named Robert. I left my keys at Roberts house so that lead to a crazy Thursday morning. It's also Elder Wilson's birthday today! He's a great person and friend and missionary and I've been very grateful to have the opportunity to serve with him and that I had the opportunity to be trained by him. He taught me a lot and helped me to break out of my shell. I'll be forever grateful for his example and friendship. And it's great that he and Elder Crowder are companions because they have both been great influences on me and as Elder Wilson once said, "If I had to be brother-husbands with anybody, it'd be Crowder."
It was a great week! I love this gospel and I thoroughly enjoy being a missionary. It's been a nice 16 months. I hope all of you have a nice week!
Groetjes,
Elder Wright
