D&C 121:45 - "Let they bowels also be full of charity towards all men, and to the Household of faith, and let virtue garnish thy thoughts unceasingly; then shall thy confidence wax strong in the presence of God; and the doctrine of the priesthood shall distil upon thy soul as the dews from heaven."
Dear Family and Friends,
This week was pretty cool. On Tuesday we had a pretty stellar district meeting that just so happened to include yoga (thank you Mom). We played a talk by Elder Eyring and then kept adding other sounds and songs on top of it. It was hard to do yoga and focus on the words of Elder Eyring while there were so many distractions. Then the sounds and songs stopped and we turned Called to Serve on super loud. Elder Eyring's words were completely inaudible. Sometimes as missionaries we think we know how to best do the work and we think we know where we need to go and who we need to visit. A lot of times I have found myself trying to do the work without the aid and the guidance of the Spirit. That's not how it works. It is so important as missionaries and as members and just as people in general to try our best not to get in the way of the Spirit and to try our best to really listen to His promptings. He will lead us to where we need to go and what we need to do.
After district meeting we took some lekker yoga pose pics and I had to say goodbye to Elder Dearden. He is a great missionary and person and I will miss him. He's heading down to Roosendaal and he's going to do great. And he has Elder Wilson down there a couple cities over to keep him safe so he should be fine.
On Wednesday we went to the church to meet up with Sister Knotter so she could pick us up for dinner and guess who was there! Aaron Winters! He was my first bishop in the Netherlands, in Rotterdam, and it was great to see him again. He was just doing some work on the Zwolle chapel so we were able to help him clean up a bit.
We had a lot of cool experiences throughout the week. We had some sick lessons with Hans and Jorn. They're both great and I love working with them. Saturday was great. We had a meeting in the morning and after that we went and begin a day of knocking doors. We were knocking in this area of Zwolle called Wipstrik and this old guy named Jacob answered the door and said "komen binnen" or "come inside". We were a little surprised and Elder Harp made sure he knew what he was getting himself into before we stepped inside. This guy had been to Salt Lake City a long time ago and seen the temple there and he had eventually met with the missionaries. He still had a Book of Mormon and pamphlets and everything from four or five years ago. We were able to talk to him about the restoration of Jesus Christ's Church and then he had a TV show to watch so he kicked us out but invited us to come back. It was super cool and kind of weird. We're unsure if he's 100% there but I'm excited to meet with him again.
After we left Jacob's house we went and caught a train to Kampen. We went and looked up a former investigator, Victor, and his family. They were home! They let us in and we were able to stay and talk for a while. Victor's wife Irene was there and pretty soon two of his kids also showed up and started talking with us. They're all from Honduras and they're all super nice. They invited us back and said that I could practice my Spanish a little bit the next time. Haha I don't know if I remember any of my Spanish, but I'm really excited to keep working with them. Missionary work is great.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true. The Book of Mormon is the word of God, together with the Bible. I love being a missionary and serving in the Netherlands. I wouldn't spend these two years in any other way. I love you all and I hope everybody has a great week!
Love,
Elder Wright
