1 Peter 2:17 -> "Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king."
Dear family and friends,
This week was busy busy busy. We had transfers and I had to say goodbye to Elder Crowder which was lame, but it's okay because Elder Thornock is also great! We had a bunch of planning to do on Wednesday and a bunch of meetings on Thursday and Friday. It was good though and it got me very excited for the rest of this transfer. If any of you were wondering what "Manna and Chowhound" is, that is Elder Thornock and my companionship name for this transfer. We needed a name for when we send out texts to the zone and the district leaders so we went on Wikipedia and hit the random page generator button and "Operation Manna and Chowhound" came up first. It's funny too because what it is is an operation during World War II where they Allied forces would drop food out of plains to the people in Nazi-occupied Holland.
We had three lessons with John Ardin this week and he's doing great. I love it because he'll connect what he learns in the Plan of Salvation lesson, for example, to what we teach him in the Gospel of Jesus Christ lesson. It's cool and it really shows that he's understanding the message that we are sharing with him. He's still moving steady and preparing for baptism in mid August if all goes well. Unfortunately John got super sick on Friday and we found him with a migraine and a cold when we went by on Saturday. So instead of sharing a lesson with him we had the opportunity to give him a priesthood blessing. It was the first time that I have given a blessing in Dutch so that was pretty cool. It was tough, but I know that God worked through me to tell John the things he needed to hear and to bless him with His authority.
On Saturday we went to Gouda because on of Elder Thornock's old investigators was getting baptized and Elder Young (who also came with his companion who had worked in Gouda) and I decided to go knock doors. We were trying to find a street and we met this really cool couple, Reili and Bertjan. Reili is from Estonia and she is studying something with media which sounded cool. Bertjan is Dutch and is studying Chemistry. They both had perfect English and initially told us that they weren't interested in religion. We kept talking to them and learned more about them and then decided to share a familysearch.org card with them and they thought it was really cool! They actually both have relatives who are busy with family history and they were open to having the Gouda sisters come over next week to see how they liked the site, and they even said we could talk about Jesus! It was awesome. It was cool to see a change of heart within the 10 minutes that we were talking with them.
We also had a nice lesson on Sunday with Sampson and Dixon. They come from Nigeria and Ghana. Sampson knows the Bible pretty well and so that was nice and he was able to give us his input on some of the points of the Restoration. In the end we were able to share the Book of Mormon with them and invite them to pray to know that it is true. They said they would do just that and we set up a new appointment with them for next week.
Well, that's it for this week. I love Rotterdam South and I love the Rotterdammers. This really is a special place and you meet so many cool people every day! The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is God's kingdom on the earth today. The Book of Mormon is the word of God, and Thomas S Monson is a prophet called to lead and guide us in these latter days.
Everybody have a great week! Tot de volgende week!
Love,
Elder Wright
